Janet Biggs lives and works in New York City. Her videos, video installations, and performances are condensed yet epic. She has captured such events as speeding motorcycles on the Bonneville Salt Flats, horses galloping on treadmills at Cornell University’s veterinary school, Olympic synchronized swimmers in their attempts to defy gravity, and icebergs floating in Iceland’s Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.
Mess Call examines the rhythm of daily life in a military context, the comfort gained by actions know and repeated, and the isolating anxiety and chaos felt when those repeated actions turn to obsession or compulsion.
