Carolina Melis (Italy 1975) is originally from Sardinia and moved to the UK to continue her training in dance and choreography in London. Her work, greatly informed by her background in choreography, explores ideas of delicacy, organic development, life-cycles and living relationships, yielding elegantly tragic pieces with a subtle romance. She graduated at Dartington College of Arts and Central Saint Martins (London). Carolina has been directing short films, music videos and commercials since 2005.

Polygyne (2008) is about multiples, about ever-changing, restless relationships. The animation transmits a sense of convulsion; we see elements being unsettled, constantly moving and always about to reach symmetry and synchronicity. Yet we never get there. The work is inspired by several images and artists that mark the stages of the music. For the first part is an homage to Kandinsky's paintings, in particular Several Circles and Composition VII. The middle part, which is the more mechanical and linear section, is a reinterpretation of Klee's Le Niesen. The final scene is inspired by a cross stitching pattern books MUSIC Efterklang (Leaf)

Toive (2009) takes inspiration by the fascinating realm of ice and the transformation affecting the arctic territories. Vladislav Delay's track Toive evoke an environment where gentle yet dynamic transformations are taking place. The progressive repetitions generate a sense of restlessness, tension, and this video intends to visualize this idea. The piece is inspired by a series of photographs by greenlandic artist Arqaluarta Rosing. The series is called 'Kassoq' (Blue Ice) and it's a portrait of the nordic frozen landscape. Here the different shapes and formation of ice are impressive: at time poignant and angular almost like futuristic architecture, other times round and shapeless like an organic matter.
