Giuliana Cunéaz (1959) lives and works in Aosta and Milan (Italy). She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin and uses all artistic media, from video-installations to sculpture, from photography to painting and painted screens. In 2005 3D became part of her research, both in terms of video and painted screens. The acquisition of this technological tool is part of a research in which the artist acquires data from the world of science and nano-science to transform them into a sort of virtual landscape that interacts continuously with real data.

Matter Waves (2009) is a video installation where images from the nanotech world are processed in 3D. They show earth waves whose flowing movement brings to the surface a series of objects, which are then sucked back into the earth in an endless process of change. At first sight these objects look like archaeological finds or fragments. In fact they are nanostructures taken from molecular or polymer elements. This research into matter leads to the discovery of intangible elements, which are subsequently given a new spatial and temporal position. Manipulating and modifying forms allows attributing to each of them a new identity. 3D Sergio Ricciardi SOUND Lorenzo Bianchi RENDERING SmokyBungalow (Milan) POST PRODUCTION Multimedia Group (Milan)

Neither snow nor meteor showers (2010) is a video installation that expands into space using different types of signs, including 3D animation and painted signs. As the title itself suggests, it does not describe a landscape nor a weather phenomenon, but rather evokes an ur-place, an embryo-like, primary space that has to do with a pre-cognitive world. The work develops a unison dialogue of several different voices at the same frequency. The animated sign migrates from the work surface, invades the surrounding space, settles down like detritus layers, and finally loses its physical substance. Migration, disaggregation and re-composition are the intrinsic elements of this work. The 3D animation plays on the mysterious, ambiguous aspects of these forms – none of which can really be attributed to a specific object. Forms chase each other, creating a story about another dimension that lies secretly hidden in the heart of matter. 3D Sergio Ricciardi SOUND Lorenzo Bianchi RENDERING SmokyBungalow (Milan) POST PRODUCTION Multimedia Group (Milan)
