Bathroom Tale

Matias Montarcé (Spain, 1978) is a video Artist based in Madrid. He is interested in enhancing the beauty of small daily acts that go unnoticed by their frequent use, In his work he connects empirical processes such as walking, reading or breathing with conceptually abstract elements.

Pee Thoughts (2010) There are countless times throughout our lives where we suffer moments of change, developmental or degenerative processes associated with the passage of time, from childhood to adolescence, to adulthood, maturity, old age. The lack of confidence in our ability to change, our subconscious intention to stop time together with different fears, makes us bogged down in a lake big enough to survive forever. The original helmet Makonde (Tanzania), used by both, men and women in their transition from adolescence to adulthood, represents in part the knowledge of their ancestors. CAST Yolanda Muñoz

Bathroom Tale (2009) wants to bring out the positive side of some technological advances. Undoubtedly, the arrival of eBook readers will have a considerable positive impact on our natural environment. The video shows how, paradoxically, by reading a book, the smell of paper and the feeling of the sheets, protagonist is induced to a dream, being absorbed by nature and becoming part of it, personifying it.
