Ran Slavin (1967) is a Tel Aviv based film maker, video artist and sound producer. His work oscillates between dream like narratives, science fiction and neo-noir. Slavin establishes cinematic frameworks resembling methods of decoding and organization, stressing the concept of interference in our relation to the world.

In Insomniac City a man tries to recall how and if he has come to be shot in one of the city's anonymous car parks. Through a fragmented non linear stream of events that encompass day and night, the city [Tel Aviv] is spliced through a vague notion of reality, chaotic observations, drifting between physical and mental spheres, between the known reality and a hallucinatory one. The film blends urban spaces and modes of perception, oscillating between film noir and science fiction. "Is it real or a dream?" In Everything Is Urgent Ran Slavin confronts the human figure in conjunction with the annoying barking of a dog. 4 figures, 2 young men and women stand in front of an unknown audience, in front of a void and bark ferociously. Driven away from systematic and social normality's, the human barking figures attack us from within the digital domain, outward. They stand to present an uncompromising hybrid human, a cross over between man and animal. Do they try to warn us or, scare us like an omen or blame us? We see a human but hear an animal. Like a shout of desperation of a person who can no longer use his voice.

Sequences; Identities (2010) The jewel has, from time immemorial, been an object possessing an emotional value and unique symbolical baggage. In many cultures people define their identity and group affiliation by means of jewels, tattoos, piercing, hairstyle, dress and fashion accessories. The use of identity symbols attached to the body deviates from temporal and spacial boundaries. The exhibition Sequences; Identities in which the film was part of, set out to expand the range of perceptions regarding the affinities of jewelry design to social views and and personal / political consciousness in an attempt to figure out how jewelry designers are influenced by aspects of identity; their own identity and those of others.
