Sifr

Silvia Camporesi (Italy, 1973) lives and works in Forlì (Italy). Born in Forlì in 1973, graduated in Philosophy, lives and works in Forlì. She is both artist and a teacher of History of Photography and Photography Critique. Through the language of photography, video and often featuring self-representation, she creates tales that are inspired by myth, literature, religion and reality. Her research moves on a subtle line between imagination and reality, wake and dream, where the subject always establishes a relation with the natural elements and at the same time attempts to transcend the limits of the body and the mind.

Second Wind (2010) In Gurdjeff's theories, the "second wind" is the most powerful energy that we can draw upon when our "normal" energy is finished. The video is about the possibility of raising ourselves to a higher spiritual level thanks to the beauty and elegance of the martial arts. The European champion of Karate Shaira Taha, performs parts of the Kata Unsu, a mimic fight to be performed with great precision, inside a cell. She manages to get out of the cell, and so moving her limits over, by making a jump that allows her to reach the "energy of the second wind". The audio is a melody sung by the artist herself in a non existent language. Sifr (2010) is the third part of a work, that has been carried on for some years, which analyses the relationship between body and spirit. After Dance dance dance- the swimmer and Second wind- the karateka, the artist dedicates Sifr to the activity of the run, offering a personal thought about the way spiritual evolution can be reached, starting from the physical effort of the body. The artist crosses landscapes she knows and loves in the province of Ravenna, runs through the snow-white saltpans and across the forest. She goes past nebulous chimneys and nature reserves, she faces the difficulties of the soil, she fights against the wind. Her parachute-skirt is heavy and light at the same time, since heavy and light are the stages of our lives. Her route becomes infinite, as metaphor of a spiritual journey.
