Amalgamide Tide

Amalgamide Tide has been publicly guerilla projected animation since the summer of 07. It traveled with me cross-country as I found random building facades and other quasi- blank, flat surfaces in the towns and cities I came across to project onto. All of the projections came from small holes cut into the sides of my van, with the intention of keeping as anonymous as possible, so the viewers can engage the new potential of there space without the distraction of its origin. The projection itself is a four minute loop of thousands of digitally animated people forming patterns of weather systems such as tsunamis, tornados, thunderstorms, waterfalls, mudslides and seas. These weather systems often take on mythic proportions in our entertainment society through news and storytelling, in part because of the effects of there vast power over human existence. We consume this entertainment and in return are part of a larger human experience. In a way it becomes a desired loss of control, especially at the arms distance of entertainment mediation, but we also tend to follow in these footsteps with other events that involve group mentality such as a riot or sports crowd. In this way we have a relation to the tsunami or tornado when our part to whole relationship or our boundaries are blurred, when many events are necessary to coalesce to form what we call singularly a tornado or a riot.
